AFI

These San Francisco punks on Dexter Holland's (The Offspring) record label, Nitro, give one of the best live shows I've ever seen. AFI performed a wide range of punk music, from their earlier, more melodic songs of 'Answer That And Stay Fashionable' to their newer, hardcore punk such as The Prayer Position and Malleus Maleficarum. Although these more recent songs have been described as 'goth-punk'(?!), I'd say they just play quality punk-hardcore with deeper lyrics. The only thing that wasn't too appealing was Davey Havok's (vocals) PVC suit. However, they're definitely worth seeing.

I saw AFI supporting The Offspring at Wembley arena and Jesus Christ, they were great. Even better than on their albums. They had loadsa energy and I can't wait to see them again. The vocals were incredible and they were just charging around the stage. Everyone should here this band!!! They RULE!!! Only one bad thing: How many times do we need to be told that: "Hi, we're AFI, we're from California." Well, according to Davey Havok, three times. I think they totally upstaged The Offspring who were great as well, but obviously so much more knackered than AFI.

AFI gave arguably the best performance at warped tour. (Second only to Rancid who played a killer set in the rain.) Rumors that Davey was sick were laid aside when AFI played to the biggest crowd of the day. During the fifth song rain clouds started to form above the stage, only adding to the AFI lyrics. They gave a great show, lots of energy and feeling. AFI's lyrics are so heart felt and personal you feel that with every screech from Davey and company you are getting closer to them. I think all the other kids in the pit would agree. They played maybe 12 or 13 songs mostly from The Art of Drowning. Watch out for a August release of their new album.
